Our system uniquely takes into account wait list deterioration

C2-Ai’s Patient Tracking List Triage system supports the needs of elective restart – meeting the requirements of the NHS Charter and the commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity by ensuring that patients are risk stratified on their individual clinical need. This enables clinicians to rapidly assess them against their risk of mortality and complications using proven methodologies and importantly, including calculation of the impact of deterioration caused by the patient’s time on the waiting list.  This means clinicians can quickly position them more accurately onto the patient treatment list.  

C2-AI has repurposed and automated existing systems that have been in use by the NHS and globally for 12 years, building on 30 years of research and the World’s largest referential patient dataset (approaching 400m records from 46 countries).  Our approaches (as featured on BBC in September 2020 and mentioned in the UK parliament) prioritise patients based on quantifiable risk and likelihood of deterioration whilst on the waiting list. 

The system integrates into existing pathway management tools and can triage hundreds of thousands of patients a day, processing and reprocessing the waiting list dynamically at scale to deliver:

  • Better use of surgeon time (currently 15 minutes spent for every patient review)

The results on the right show patients risk assessment today and the impact of wait list deteriioration, increasing their risk compared to today.

Nobody gets better while waiting for their operation procedure but some remain on the line as their risk does not change.

The system helps not just help validate and prioritise patients on the waiting list, but the example right shows patients without a priority and those who are not categorised correctly. 

Findings on re-prioritisation

15% of cases in one client site had a priority (P-Code) mismatch.  94.7% of these were updated by the medical team to the C2-Ai P-Code.  5.3% unchanged due to additional information available to clinician – e.g. pain management considerations.
